Kids Swag was founded in 2016 while Kimberlee was on maternity leave with her youngest. Kimberlee's goal through Kids Swag is to help parents raise Confident Kids that Appreciate Difference.
Kimberlee's own lived experience and background in marketing made her actuely aware of the impact of images on a child's sense of self worth and understanding of how to treat others that are different from their own culture.
Kimberlee knew action was required when her edlest daughter - Kiera - told her at age two that she wanted blonde hair and blue eyes. Saddened by this annoucement KImberlee recognized the role she had played in her daughter's narrow view of beauty and knew she had to become more intentional about the images, words and expereinces she shared with her girls.
Black Women Swim started in July 2020 in response to a group of black women in Toronto expressing an interest but also an apprehension to learn how to swim. Kimberlee started a Facebook group to support these women as well as herself in her swim journey. To date the group has over 650+ members!
Kimberlee coined the term Mindful Representation.
Mindful Representation is a practice inspired by the concept of Mindfulness. Mindful Representation means being intentional about the images, words and experiences that a child engages in to gain a greater sense of self and an appreciation of others.
Kimberlee created the Mindful Representation Guide in June 2020 in response to the murder of George Floyd and request from the Kids Swag community on what could they do to help educate their kids about being anti-racist.
